Charles Monroe Baumgardner, 73 of Hillsville, passed away on Wednesday, June 24, 2026 at his home. Mr. Baumgardner was born in Galax, Virginia on November 17, 1952 to the late Joseph Lee and Ilah Mae Bean Baumgardner. In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by brothers, Jesse, Larry, and Danny Baumgardner and half-brother, David Owens.

Survivors include his life partner, Diane Goad of Hillsville, VA; daughters and sons-in-law, Sherry Shaffner (Jason) of Galax, VA, Ashley Reynolds (Nick) of Corunna, MI, and Brittany Anthony (Devan) of Galax, VA; son and daughter-in-law, Casey Baumgardner (Lisa) of Galax, VA; stepdaughter, Ashley Goad (Brandon White) of Roanoke, VA; sister, Patricia Hill of Galax, VA; aunts, Mildred Vaughan of Galax, VA and Libby Bean of North Wilkesboro, NC; uncle, Tony Bean (Kathryn) of Hudson, NC; ten grandchildren, Kodi Winesett (Jessy), Alyssa Baumgardner (Carlos), Lakin Shaffner (Kelly), Emma Baumgardner, Lilly Cole, Westin Cole, Dawson Cole, all from Galax, VA, Jonathan Shaffner (Jessica) of Ennice, NC, Colton Reynolds, and Raven Reynolds of Corunna MI; six great grandchildren, Christian Sanchez, Colton Sanchez, Kinsley Winesett of Galax, VA, Zeke Alford, Eli Shaffner, and EllieMae Shaffner of Ennice, NC; and a host of nieces and nephews.

A memorial service will be held on Saturday, June 27, 2026 at Vaughan-Guynn-McGrady Chapel at 2:00 PM with Ellick “Matt” Johnson officiating. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Saturday from 1:00 until 2:00 PM prior to the memorial service. Vaughan-Guynn-McGrady Chapel is serving the family.
