Cecil F. Tate, 84 of Hillsville, died Sunday, June 3, 2007 at home after a brief illness. He was born Feb. 12, 1923, the son of William & Fannie Tate. Mr. Tate was a member of Oak Grove Baptist Church where he served as deacon, a member of the Galax Moose Lodge and a member of the Hillsville V.F.W. Post 1115.

He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Iva Lee Burcham Tate of the home; son & daughter-in-law Larry & Martha Tate of Hopewell, VA; brother Herbert H. Tate of Chattanooga, TN; grandson Christopher Tate of Prince George, VA and numerous nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, June 6, 2007 at 2:00 PM at Vaughan-Guynn-McGrady Chapel with Rev. Jim Longest officiating. Burial will follow in the Independence Cemetery. Military Rites will be conducted by the Hillsville V.F.W. Post 1115. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Tuesday night from 6:00 to 8:00 PM.
