Cathy Ann Ham Soria, 50 of Fancy Gap passed away at her home on Friday, October 22, 2010. Cathy was a former resident of Galax, VA and a graduate of Carroll County High School Class of 1979. She had lived in Fancy Gap, VA for the past seventeen years with her loving husband and family. Cathy was a member of Skyview Baptist Church in Fancy Gap, a loving wife and mother dedicated to her family, church, and community.

Cathy had worked at Hanes Knitting Company, Pizza Hut, Webb Furniture in Galax, and Mountain Top Restaurant in Fancy Gap. She did in home baby-sitting for twenty-three years with seventeen of those years being for families in and around the Fancy Gap area. After retiring from baby-sitting she worked at Kentucky Derby in Hillsville, with her last job being at Hungry Farmer Restaurant in Cana, VA. She enjoyed working in her flower and vegetable gardens where she said, I feel relaxed and close to God.

Cathy had a very caring pastor and his wife, Wendell and Kitty Horton of Sky View Baptist Church, Fancy Gap, VA, along with many other members, friends, neighbors, Twana, Dan, Ron, and all the folks at the Galax Smokehouse and Mountain Valley Hospice.

Born in Dallas, Texas on October 18, 1960, Cathy was the daughter of Bobby and Gaye Hawks Ham of Galax, VA. She was preceded in death by her father Bobby Lewis Ham, her maternal and paternal grandparents.

Survivors include her loving husband Alfonso (Fonsie) Soria, four daughters, Miranda Harber and friend John Cooley, Woodlawn, VA, Ashley Millaway of Galax, VA, Angela Soria and Santana Soria of the home; one son Bobby Ryan Soria of the home; her mother Wanda Gaye Hawks Ham of Galax, VA and friend Bob Edmonds of Richmond, VA; one very close and loving sister Vickie Manning and friend Darrell Quesenberry of Hillsville, VA; one grandson Hunter Lewis Millaway, Galax, VA; one special niece Sasha Dalton Bobbitt and husband Ricky of Mount Airy, NC; one special nephew Cameron Lewis Manning of Hillsville, VA; two great nieces, Jaydan Dalton and Payge Bobbitt; one great nephew Dakota Bobbitt; several aunts, uncles, and cousins, including two special aunts, Jenny Smith and husband Bo of Galax, VA, and Doris Jean Asbury of Tazewell, VA, and one special uncle Cecil Ham and wife Darlene of Lansing, NC; three special friends, Karen Lunsford of Independence, VA, Stephanie Wooten of Winston Salem, NC, and Peggy Nester of Hillsville, VA, a special family Joan Weatherman of Dobson, NC, Dedra, Debra, and Timmy. Cathy will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her.

Funeral services will be held on Monday, October 25, 2010 at 2:00 PM at Vaughan-Guynn-McGrady Chapel with Rev. Wendell Horton officiating. Burial will follow in the Webb-Skyview Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Sunday, October 24, 2010 from 7:00 until 9:00 PM.
