Catherine Janet Strauss, 92 of Hillsville, passed away on Tuesday, February 1, 2022 at her home. Mrs. Strauss was born in Baltimore, Maryland on August 10, 1929 to the late Harry Edward and Bessye May (Utermohle) Weidman. In addition to her parents, she was also preceded in death by her husband, Harold Lee Strauss, Sr.

Catherine graduated from Catonsville High School in Baltimore, Maryland and was a professional bookkeeper for many years. The central focus in her life was being a caretaker to others. She cared for her mother, cared for her children and grandchildren, and cared for other family members, friends and church members. Along the way she also enjoyed horseback riding, boating, RV camping, travel and church activities.

Survivors include her sons, Harold Lee Strauss, Jr. of Littlestown, PA, Harry George Mark Strauss (Brenda) of Hillsville, VA, and William Robert Strauss (Evelin) of Owings Mills, MD; seven grandchildren, two step-grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren, six step-great-grandchildren; and nine step-great-great-grandchildren.

A graveside service with burial following will be held at Woodlawn Cemetery at 2130 Woodlawn Drive Baltimore, MD 21207 on Saturday, February 12, 2022 at 2:00 PM. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the First United Methodist Church in Hillsville P.O. Box 356 Hillsville, VA 24343. Vaughan-Guynn-McGrady Chapel is serving the family.
