Cassie Edith Goad Smythers, 70, of Woodlawn, passed away on December 29, 2006 at Waddell Nursing Home in Galax. She is survived by her husband, Gerald C. Smythers of the home; a daughter, Louise Jonas also of the home; step-daughters and spouses Emma and Dennis Edwards of Winston Salem, NC, Joan and Michael Miller of Stokesdale, NC; brothers and sister-in-law Dennis and Ruby Goad of Hillsville, Delmer Goad of Hillsville; sisters and brother-in-law Geneva Goad of Hillsville, Mattie Goad of Hillsville, Elsie and Tom Hodges of Tennessee; step-grandchildren Sharon Morales, Veronica Brown, Jonathan Miller, Matthew Miller; and several nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

The service will be on Tuesday, January 2, 2007 at 2:00 PM at the Pleasant View Holiness Church, with Rev. Billy Dean officiating. Burial will follow in the Pickett cemetery. The family will be receiving friends on Monday, January 1, 2007 from 6 to 8 PM at the church.
