Carolyn F. Briggs, 62, of Hillsville, passed away on Thursday, January 2, 2014 at Carilion Roanoke Memorial Hospital. Mrs. Briggs was born in Bishop, WV to the late Roy Lee and Nannie Asbury Phillips. Survivors include her husband, Tommy Briggs of the home; daughter and son-in-law, Missy and Rockey Sawyers of Austinville; son and daughter-in-law, Ray and Tessa Briggs of Woodlawn; brother and sister-in-law, Ronnie Lee and Noreen Phillips of Galax; sisters, Alice Kohl of Vienna, VA and Loretta Byrd of Pocahontas, VA; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law and spouses, Florence Collins of Salem, Russell and Myrtle Briggs of Roanoke; John and Zona Briggs of Woodlawn; Jackie and JoAnn Briggs of Waynesboro, and Darlene and Ronald Thomas of Abingdon, VA; and three grandchildren. Funeral services will be held on Sunday, January 5, 2014 at Woodlawn Church of God at 1:00 PM with Rev. John C. Briggs, Pastor John Canning and Pastor Andy Edmonds officiating. Burial will follow in the Pickett Cemetery. The family will receive friends at Vaughan-Guynn-McGrady on Saturday, January 4, 2014 from 6:00 until 8:00 PM. Flowers would be appreciated; however, donations may be made to the Pickett Cemetery or the American Heart Association. Vaughan-Guynn-McGrady Chapel is serving the family.
