Carl Dyer Davis age 79 of Hillsville, Virginia passed away in his home on Friday, July 29, 2022.
Carl was born April 17, 1943 in Carroll County, Virginia to Dyer and Hallie Davis each of whom preceded him in death.
Carl graduated from Galax High School in 1961. He then attended Milligan College in Eastern Tennessee and graduated with a bachelor's degree. While at Milligan, he met the love of his life, Sandra Moore and they were married on January 28, 1964.
Carl began his career as a high school English teacher. He quickly transitioned to banking where he was a bank manager/auditor. He also served as a Sunday school teacher, a deacon and in church leadership in other capacities, and a scout leader.
Carl had strong faith in Jesus Christ. He was a family man who loved to help people. He loved the beauty of the Blue Ridge Mountains with its rich heritage. He valued the strong Christian and family attitudes and beliefs that formed the character of the people of Carroll County. Carl had the gift of humor and loved to make people laugh.
Carl was diagnosed with Parkinson's disease and lived with it over 30 years. He traveled to the University of Virginia Medical Center, Duke University Medical Center, and Vanderbilt University Medical Center gaining medical cutting-edge knowledge from leading doctors in the field of Parkinson's study while participating in medical research programs that advanced Parkinson's medication today. Because of his passion to help people with Parkinson's he helped cofound St. Joseph's Parkinson's and Essential Tremor Support Group. This group was founded 12 years ago in 2010 and this group still is blossoming and functioning to this day.
Carl is survived by his wife of 58 years Sandra Moore Davis; sons Kevin Davis and wife Mari Davis of Texas and Gannon Davis and wife Nevada Davis of Virginia; and his special pots of gold at the end of the rainbow, granddaughters Jagger Davis and Axton Davis of Virginia; sister Janie Branscome and her husband Leroy Branscome of Virginia; sister-in-law Judi McKenzie; nephews Michael Branscome and wife Carol Branscome of Virginia and Scott McKenzie and wife Denise McKenzie of California; nieces Selena King and husband Joe King of Virginia and Sherry Cuellar and Christian Cuellar of California; as well as, numerous cousins and friends.
A Memorial Service will be held at Hillsville Christian Church (across from the middle school) in Hillsville, Virginia on Thursday, August 4, 2022 at 4 PM.
