Bobbie Jean
Copeland
August 30, 1932 – April 1, 2022
On April 1, 2022- Bobbie Jean Hardy Copeland (Nana to many far and near), of Hillsville, Virginia went to be with her Lord and Savior surrounded by her family.
Bobbie was born in Danville, VA on August 30, 1932 where she grew up, attended Schoolfield United Methodist Church and graduated from Schoolfield High School in 1950.
During her high school years, Bobbie was an active member of the glee club, and several other chapters, too many to list. On November 21, 1951, Bobbie married her husband, William F. Copeland and they began their life together- moving to Richmond, VA., while Bill attended and graduated from the Medical College of Virginia. In 1965 their family relocated to Hillsville, Virginia to open Carroll Drug.
Bobbie was a member of the Eastern Star, Girl Scout Leader, and Youth Leader at Hillsville First United Methodist Church where she also graced the church with her beautiful voice in the choir for over 50 years. Bobbie was an active member of the Virginia Pharmaceutical Association Ladies Club, holding many offices. Bobbie was a successful real estate broker that could name every back road within the surrounding areas.
Bobbie is predeceased in death by her parents: David Andrew and Alpha Bowman Hardy. Her 2 nd daughter and mother to Kimberly and Sara- Linda Copeland Catron.
Her half-sister Christine Bowman (Clyde), and half- brother Jack.
Bobbie is survived by her husband of 70 years- William F. Copeland (Doc) and their daughters, Cynthia Copeland (Bobby Sumner), Laurie Porter (Roger) Grandchildren Stacy Marshall (Jesse) and their daughter Katie. Kimberly Kaiko (James) and Kimberly's son Zachary. Sara Tutor (Joe) and their sons Colton and Knox. William Griggs (Ashton) and their daughter Charlotte and soon to be baby girl Griggs arriving in August 2022. Lauren Silcox (Benjamin) and their sons Benjamin and Brooks. Sister-in-law and brother-in-law Cathy Compton (Dwight) and their daughters- Cathy Jo Lanter (Jeff- and their daughters, Emma and Addison)- Lindsay Brooke Compton (Katelyn). The family would like to extend their deepest thanks to Senior Home Share and the providers= Heather Blevins and Melissa Epperly that were by her side day in and out.
A Celebration of Life Service will be held on Saturday, May 7, 2022 at 11:30 AM at Vaughan-Guynn-McGrady Chapel. The family will receive friends at Vaughan-Guynn-McGrady Chapel on Saturday, May 7, 2022 from 11;00 AM to 11:30 AM. As this is a celebration of life and not a day of mourning, please consider wearing something colorful as Bobbie always did. In lieu of flowers the family request donations be made to the Virginia Pharmaceutical Association in memory of Bobbie and in honor of Bill.
