Bill "Mountain Man" Underwood , 68 of Independence, passed away on Sunday, January 3, 2016 at the Woltz Hospice Home in Dobson, NC. Mr. Underwood was born in Grayson County to the late Edgar and Addie Beatrice Shupe Underwood. In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by his sister, Georgia Underwood.

Survivors include his son and daughter-in-law, Raymond and Shannon Underwood of Hillsville; sisters and brother-in-law, Betty and Billy Funk of Fries, Joyce Lineberry of Woodlawn, and Audrey Brown of Fries; brother, Dennis Underwood of Fries; grandsons and spouse, Lee and Ashley Underwood, Joshua Underwood, and Kalob Underwood; several nieces and nephews; and special friends, Gus Hill and James Hill and all of Hills Trucking Company.

Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, January 6, 2016 at the Hillsville Pentecostal Holiness Church at 1:00 PM with Pastor Jeff Pickett officiating. Burial will follow in the Liberty Hill Cemetery in Fries. The family will receive friends at the church on Tuesday, January 5, 2016 from 6:00 until 8:00 PM.  Vaughan-Guynn-McGrady Chapel is serving the family.
