Bettie Nester Southard, 72 of Dugspur, passed away on Wednesday, November 2, 2022 at Carilion Roanoke Memorial Hospital. Mrs. Southard was born in Carroll County, Virginia to the late Sherman and Gladys Goad Nester. In addition to her parents, she was also preceded in death by her husband, Barry Southard; daughter, Angela Bettina "Angel" Brown; and sister, Marbrie Worrell.

Survivors include her children, James Brown (Mary), Troy Brown (Holly Phillips), Sam Dycus, and Matt Dycus (Erin); brothers, Elwood Nester, Laymon Nester (Darlene) and Hillis Nester (Melva); sisters, Wavie Dalton and Treva Denas (Chuck); nine grandchildren; one great-grandchild; and her faithful companions, Lexie, Dusty, Pipper, and Willow.

A funeral service will be held on Monday, November 7, 2022 at Vaughan-Guynn-McGrady Chapel at 11:00 AM with Pastor Joe Lambert and Pastor Don'l Blevins officiating. Burial will follow in the Aaron Nester Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Sunday, November 6, 2022 from 5:00 until 7:00 PM.  Vaughan-Guynn-McGrady Chapel is serving the family.
