Bertie Mae DeHart Akers, 72, of Hillsville, passed away on Thursday, October 11, 2012 at Golden Living Center in Galax. Mrs. Akers was born in Wythe County on June 9, 1940 to the late Delmer K. DeHart and Bessie Peak DeHart. Survivors include her daughter and son-in-law, Donella and J. David Staples of Hillsville; brothers and sisters-in-law, Ray and Koleta DeHart of Hillsville, James and Jackie DeHart of Draper, Tony and Gloria DeHart of Draper, and Bobby and Patricia DeHart of Barren Springs; sisters and brothers-in-law, Marie and Dennis Hanks of Pulaski, Louise Payne of Draper, Lovelene and William Dalton of Pulaski, and Linda and Jerry Viars of Barren Springs; grandsons and spouse, David and Sheena Staples and Dayne Staples; and great grandchildren, Sean Staples, Madison Staples, Emma Staples, and Riley Staples. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, October 13, 2012 at 2:00 PM at Riverview Church of God with Pastor Eddie Dalton and Pastor Chip Neely officiating. Burial will follow in the Memorial Christian Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends at Vaughan-Guynn-McGrady Chapel on Friday, October 12, 2012 from 6:00 until 8:00 PM. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the family in care of Donella Staples 626 Alum Rock Road, Hillsville, VA 24343. Vaughan-Guynn-McGrady Chapel is serving the family.
