Berlen Nuckolls Hill, 72 of Hillsville, passed away on Thursday, August 2, 2018 at Carilion Roanoke Memorial Hospital. Mr. Hill was born in Carroll County to the late Raymond and Pearl Vass Hill. In addition to his parents he was also preceded in death by a brother, Harley Hill and a brother-in-law, Kenneth Puckett.

Survivors include his wife, Sara Hill of the home; son and daughter-in-law, Scott and Diana Hill of Fancy Gap; daughter and son-in-law, Tracy Hill Shockley and Mark of Hillsville; sister and brother-in-law, Denise Hill Hicks and Greg; sister-in-law, Brenda Hill; seven grandchildren, Keisha Johnson, Tyler McMickle, Candice Anauo, Mary Beth Hill, Kayla Shockley, Kristen Shockley and Savanna Smith; great-grandchild Addilynn Anauo; several nieces and nephews; and several great-nieces and nephews.

Berlen retired after 45 years of service from the Virginia Department of Transportation. He was also a member of the Hillsville Masonic Lodge # 193 AF & AM.

Funeral services will be held on Sunday, August 5, 2018 at Vaughan-Guynn-McGrady Chapel at 2:00 PM with Pastor Wendell Horton officiating. Burial will follow in the Independence Cemetery. Masonic Rites will be conducted by the Hillsville Masonic Lodge #193 AF & AM. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Sunday from 12:00 until 2:00 PM prior to the funeral service. Vaughan-Guynn-McGrady Chapel is serving the family.
