Obituary

Barbara Carpenter Jett, 64, of Hillsville passed away suddenly on November 9, 2007. She was a warm, caring, loyal and devoted wife, mother, sister, aunt and friend. Barbara was born February 7, 1943 to Amanda Primm Carpenter and Gilmer W. Carpenter. She graduated from Hillsville High School in 1961. She Married Robert F. Jett in February 1961. She is survived by her husband, Robert F. (Bobby) Jett of the home; and one son, Franklin M. Jett of Galax. She lived for a short time in Newport News, VA before returning to Hillsville. Barbara worked at Sprague Electric for 25 years before going into business with her husband who owns Bobs Ladies and Menswear, once on Main Street in Hillsville, and now located at Stateline Village in Cana. She was a past Worthy Matron of the Order of the Eastern Star, and a longtime member of the Hillsville Presbyterian Church. Barbara was preceded in death by her parents Amanda and Gilmer Carpenter; brother-in-law James H. Beck; and father-in-law Clinton C. Jett. She will be sorely missed by her husband Bobby, son Franklin, sister Christine C. Beck of Hillsville; brother Roger G. Carpenter, wife Phyllis, and their children Tyler and Haley of Galax; mother-in-law Mary T. Jett of Hillsville; sister-in-law and husband Dianne & Richard Raymond of Roanoke; nephew and wife James & Libby Atkins of Boones Mill, VA; niece Gwynn Atkins of Roanoke; nephews Eddie Beck and wife Kristen, and their children Jamie, Sadie, and Sydney of Johnson City, TN; Mike Beck and wife Megan, and daughter Maggie of Kernersville, NC; Pat Beck and wife Nikki of Boomer, NC; special friend James Goad of Hillsville; and a very special canine Susie.

The funeral service will be on Monday, November 12, 2007 at 2:00 PM at the Vaughan Guynn McGrady Chapel, with Rev. Raymond Eichler and Pastor David Bays officiating. Burial will follow in the North End Cemetery. The family will receive friends on Sunday, November 11, 2007 from 6 to 8 PM at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to the Hillsville Presbyterian Church at PO Box 1446, Hillsville, VA 24343, or the Twin County Humane Society at PO Box 125, Hillsville, VA 24343.
