Barbara Ruth Chappell, 81 of Hillsville, passed away on Wednesday, February 15, 2023 at her home. Mrs. Chappell was born in Galax, Virginia to the late Heath and Doris Puckett Wilmouth. In addition to her parents, she was also preceded in death by her husband, James Chappell; brothers, Clarence Wilmouth, Carl Wilmouth, and Johnny Wilmouth; and sisters, Viola Taylor.

Survivors include her daughter and son-in-law, Ann and Patrick Hughes of Hillsville; son and daughter-in-law, Marvin and Tammy Chappell of the home; brothers and sister-in-law, Richard Wilmouth and Howard and Debbie Wilmouth all of Galax; special step-grandson, Curtis Hill of the home; three step-grandsons, Alex, Ben, and Cole Ousley of Hillsville; great-grandson, Preston Ousley; special nieces and nephews, Melinda Taylor of Galax, Michael Chappell of Hillsville, and Nancy Chappell of Hillsville; several nieces and nephews; special great-great-nephew and like a grandson, McCain Griffith; sister, Norma Jean of Maryland; and special friends, the Hancock and Shaw families and Molly Hill.

Funeral services will be held on Monday, February 20, 2023 at Vaughan-Guynn-McGrady Chapel at 2:00 PM with Pastor Kaye Seay officiating. Burial will follow in the Worrell Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Monday from 1:00 until 2:00 PM prior to the funeral service. Vaughan-Guynn-McGrady Chapel is serving the family.
