Ava Smythers Fender, 78 of Cana, passed away Monday, December 11, 2006 at Northern Hospital of Surry County. Mrs. Fender is survived by her husband Fred Fender of the home; daughter Diana Parker of York, PA; son & daughter-in-law Dennis & Denise Fender of Temple, TX; brothers Omer Smythers of Mt. Airy, NC and William Smythers of Woodlawn; sister Berna Winesett of Woodlawn; four grandchildren and seven great grandchildren.

The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 PM on Friday, December 15, 2006 at Vaughan-Guynn-McGrady Chapel. A funeral service and burial will follow in Maryland at a date to be announced.
