Ava Jean Brown, 79 of Fancy Gap, passed away on Tuesday, October 3, 2017 at Commonwealth Senior Living in Hillsville. Mrs. Brown was born in Madison County, NC to the late Venus and Lela Hensley Ray.   In addition to her parents, she was also preceded in death by her husband, Edward Milas Brown; daughter, Becky Coleman; and two grandchildren. Survivors include her children, Perry Brown of Yorktown, Cheri Shortt of Gloucester, Mary Twisdale of Fancy Gap, Terri Owens of Gloucester, and Pat Hart of Houston, TX; brother and sister-in-law, Ronnie and June Ray of Newport News; sisters, Irene Phillips of Weaverville, NC and Lillie Mae Howard of Maryland; nine grandchildren; and three great grandchildren.

A graveside service with burial following will be held on Saturday, October 7, 2017 at 3:30 PM at Peninsula Memorial Park Cemetery, 12750 Warwick Blvd., Newport News, VA 23606. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Alzheimer's Association 225 N. Michigan Ave, Floor 17, Chicago, IL 60601-7633, to Commonwealth Senior Living, 100 Kyle Drive, Hillsville, VA 24343 or to Mountain Valley Hospice, 1477 Carrollton Pike, Hillsville, VA 24343. Vaughan-Guynn-McGrady Chapel is serving the family.
