Obituary

Arthur Robert Piccot was born on October 31, 1918 in Stephney, Connecticut. He passed away peacefully in Durham, North Carolina during the early morning hours of September 24, 2006. His early years were spent on a farm in Connecticut, where he faced the challenges of the Great Depression with his parents, Henry and Mathilde Piccot as well as sisters Ena, Celestine, and brothers Edmond, Daniel, and George. During World War II he met and married Helen Louise Humphreys, while both were on assignment working with the U.S. Army in Oak Ridge, Tennessee. Together, they raised a caring family of 3 children at homes in Idaho and California. In his early years Arthur worked as a mason but later attended college and received his degree in Electrical Engineering from Ohio State University. He was the first and only member of his family to attended college. Throughout his engineering career, he dedicated his time and energy to the safety of nuclear workers involved with spacecraft, power stations, and material processing facilities. He was key in developing modern nuclear safety guidelines. He was a devoted and supportive member of the Catholic Church and spent many hours studying the Bible throughout his life. In later years he loved gardening and his beloved pet - Tommy Cat. His family includes his devoted late wife Louise Piccot, and his surviving children, John Piccot, daughter Mary Piccot Van Horn and her husband Kevin Van Horn, and son Stephen Piccot and his wife Cathy Smith Piccot. His grandchildren include Laurel Piccot, Michael Piccot, and Daniel Piccot, and Kristy Saueressig and Temir Van Horn.

Although we remain to share in the sadness of his loss, we are proud and thankful for his strength, intelligence, humility, love and respect for the outdoors, and dedication to protecting the health of nuclear workers. We are thankful for the gifts he gave us to keep. We love and miss you Dad.
