Arlas Parnell, 79 of Hillsville, passed away on Wednesday, December 30, 2020 at Carrington Place in Rural Retreat. Mr. Parnell was born in Carroll County to the late Carl and Elva Rotenizer Parnell. In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by two sisters and five brothers.

Arlas will be best remembered as "Poppy" by his crew of grandkids. He made each of them feel special and kept them laughing. He was a tireless worker and was always on the move. He loved Goad and did everything he could for his wife and family. Arlas will be greatly missed, but he is in a better place where we all hope to meet him when the Lord calls us home.

Survivors include his wife, Carolyn Parnell of the home; daughters, Teresa Hawks of Hillsville and Lisa Brooks (Bryan) of Richmond; sisters, Joyce Wertman and Alene Lawson (Eugene); brother, Foster Parnell; grandchildren, Justin Hall (Jaime), Jessica Lineberry (Cruz), Eli Brooks, and Madeleine Brooks; great-granddaughter, Kayleigh Grimes; and several nieces and nephews. The family wishes to express their gratitude to the staff at Carrington Place in Rural Retreat for their wonderful care.

A memorial service will be held on Saturday, January 2, 2021 at Blue Ridge Fellowship at 11:00 AM with Rev. Eddie Dalton officiating. Vaughan-Guynn-McGrady Chapel is serving the family.
