Annie Ruth "Tootsie" Barr

Annie Ruth “Tootsie” Barr, 87 of Hillsville, passed away on Thursday, October 29, 2026. Tootsie was born in Carroll County, Virginia to the late Mawyer Thompson and Octavia Stanley Thompson Cox. In addition to her parents, she was also preceded in death by daughter, Roxanne Barr; sons, Jeff Barr and Michael Barr; brothers, Tommy Cox and Bobby Thompson; and sister, Judy Shockley.

Tootsie is survived by her son-in-law, Dean Bowers; grandchildren, Nikki Bowers, Michael “Pudge” Bowers, Cody Bowers, Marcus Barr, and Mason Barr; step-grandson, Mathew Herring; several great-grandchildren; brothers, Thurman Thompson and Ricky Cox (Debra); sister, Elsie Gray; and sisters-in-law, Diane Cox and Glenda Thompson.

A celebration of life service will be held on Saturday, November 7, 2026 at White Chapel Farm and Venue from 1:00 to 4:00 PM. A private burial will be held in the Gladesboro Lutheran Church Cemetery. Vaughan-Guynn-McGrady Chapel is serving the family.
