Annie Mae
Horton Landsberry
January 26, 1937 – March 15, 2023
Annie Mae Horton Landsberry, our beloved mother, passed away on March 15, 2023 at age 86. She was born on a rainy day, January 26, 1937, to the late Foster Horton and Beatrice Largen Horton of Dugspur. Her younger brother, Alton Carl Horton, was born five years later and now lives in Galax with his wife Patsy. Her older brother James Referd Horton was born November 14, 1933 and passed away December 17, 1933.
Annie attended the old Dickens School in Dugspur and later graduated from Hillsville High School in 1954. At 18 years old, her father took her to vote and she continued to vote all her life. The Hortons were good, ole Republicans. After school, she took a job at UVA in the cafeteria and then moved to Northern Virginia to work at a telephone company. She met and married W. J. Landsberry, a career Marine, and Patricia Ann Landsberry was born at Bethesda Naval Hospital in 1957. She is now Patricia Landsberry Guynn and lives in Dugspur with her husband Glen Guynn. Susan Lynn Landsberry was born in Camp Lejeune, N.C. in 1960. Susan Landsberry Ayers now lives in Cana with her husband Tommy Ayers. Annie's five grandsons are Brian (& Christina), David (& Autumn), and Jesse (& Laura) Guynn and Ethan and Luke Ayers. Her great grandchildren are Ripley, Trystan, and Lorelai Guynn.
After Camp Lejeune, Annie's family then moved to Quantico, Virginia, New Orleans, Louisiana, and Cherry Point, North Carolina before returning to Carroll County, Virginia. Annie then worked in the Information Technology Department as an Office Services Specialist in the mail room delivering mail to buildings and grounds at the Southwestern Virginia Training Center in Hillsville until she retired. After retirement, she was the caregiver to her mother until 2008.
Annie was a member of the VFW Ladies Auxiliary and the Carroll County Historical Society for years.
The Bible says in James 1:17 "Every good gift comes from above". Thank you God for blessing us with a loving, giving, and caring mother!
