August 13, 1911 – October 24, 2007
Alva Clay, 96, surrounded by his family, went to be with the Lord on Wednesday, October 24, 2007. He was born August 13, 1911 in Cabell County, WV to the late W. F. and Laura Adkins Clay. He enjoyed raising horses and cattle and fox hunting with his hounds. He retired from the Radford Arsenal after 27 years of service. Alva was predeceased by his beloved wife, Violet Allen Clay. He was also predeceased by his step-mother, Nettie Lucas Clay and his step-daughter Jeanette Dickens Horton. Alva is survived by his daughters Darlene Clay Poore and husband John, Lois Clay Markham, and Susan Clay Naff and husband Edward; he is survived by his step-son Luther I. Dickens and wife Helen, and his step-daughters Helen D. Roudabush and husband Bill, and Virginia D. Wells and husband Tom. Alva is also survived by 20 grandchildren, 30 great grandchildren, and 3 great, great grandchildren. Alva spent the last year and a half residing at Laurel Meadows Retirement Home in Carroll County enjoying the fellowship of the other residents and the care of the staff.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, October 27, 2007 at 2:00 PM at Vaughan-Guynn-McGrady Chapel with Rev. David Bays officiating. Burial will follow in the Webb-Sky View Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Friday night from 6:00 until 8:00 PM.
