Alta Hulen McGrady Banks, 99 of Hillsville, passed away on Friday, December 22nd at her home. She was born on November 11th, 1924 in Carroll County, Virginia to Hobart & Myrtie McGrady; the oldest of 7 children.

On January 30th, 1943, she married John C Banks. Through their marriage they had 7 children. 11 grandchildren. 33 great grandchildren. 6 great great grandchildren. They were married 59 years, until John passed away in 2002. Together they built a family farm that still operates today.

She is survived by daughter in law Zenith Banks; son & daughter in law Leonard & Sue Banks; daughter & son in law Sharon & Clark Martin; daughter & son in law Kathryn & Billy Horton; daughter Julia Banks; daughter Pamela Banks; son & daughter in law JC & Kim Banks; Sister Nancy Goad; sister in law Vesta McGrady; sister in law Sandra McGrady; sister in law Lois Jean McGrady; many, many grandchildren, great grandchildren, great great grandchildren, nieces, nephews & friends.

She is preceded in death by her mother & father; husband John; son Richard Banks; great granddaughter Ellie Beamer; brother & sister in law Clayton & Faye McGrady; brother Herbert McGrady; brother LD McGrady; brother Jack McGrady; sister & brother in law Bonnie & Posey Vass.

Funeral services will be held on Thursday, December 28, 2023 at Vaughan-Guynn-McGrady Chapel at 10:00 AM with Pastor Wendell Horton officiating.  Burial will follow in the Heath Banks Cemetery.  The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Wednesday, December 27, 2023 from 6:00 until 8:00 PM.  In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Heath Banks Cemetery: Janet Banks, 570 Windy Ridge Road, Hillsville, VA 24343.  Vaughan-Guynn-McGrady Chapel is serving the family.
