On July 29, 2015 Mrs. Warren F. (Alma Oleta Webb) Sutphin ascended to heaven to join her family which preceded her. Her infant son David W. Sutphin, her husband of 30 years Warren Sutphin, parents, Jabe and Lura Webb, sister and brother-in-law, Velma and Dwight Talbert, brother and sister-in-law, Clarence and Lois Webb, and Custis and Geneva Webb. Remaining to cherish her loving kindness and spirit of life are her son, Carlton W. Sutphin and numerous nieces and nephews from both the Webb and Sutphin families. Alma was born September 13, 1920 in Floyd County. The family went to Laurel Fork in the late 20's. She lived and grew up there until she met and married Warren in August of 1941. They moved around the United States during the Second World War to the different stations he had in the U.S. Navy. They settled down on Tinker Bell Farm in Laurel Fork after the war until Alma moved from the farm in 1973 after Warren's death in 1971. She became the manager of the then Snow Apartments in Hillsville that are now Colonial Apartments. Very special thanks to her niece Nancy McCreary, friend and neighbor, Patricia Smith, former neighbor David Marshall, and good friend Mrs. Libby Coffey for all the help and assistance they provided in the latter months and years of her life. Also very special thanks to the cna's, nurses and staff of Laurel Meadows facility in Laurel Fork for their kindness, compassion and love they extended to my mother these past 13 months. Funeral services will be held on Friday, July 31, 2015 at 2:00 PM at the Hillsville Presbyterian Church, with Rev. Kevin Campbell officiating. Burial will follow in the Spence Cemetery, Dugspur. The family will receive friends on Friday, from 12:00 until service time. Vaughan Guynn McGrady Chapel is serving the Sutphin family.
