Alee G. Goad, age 82, of Hillsville, went to be with her Savior Wednesday, August 29. She was preceded in death by her husband of 53 years, Swanson L. Goad. She is survived by the three children and their spouses, of Hillsville: Larry and Brenda Goad; Joan and Roger Dalton; Judy and Lonnie King. Three grandsons, Bryan and Melinda King, High Point; Marty Dalton, Pilot Mountain; and Tommy and Shannon Goad, Ohio, survive Granny Goad: Her dearly loved great grandchildren are Shyann Dalton, Ferrum College; Emmett and Molly Jane King, High Point; Jackson Goad, Mt. Gilead, Ohio; and Shaye Evans, Cana; and her great-great grandchild is Kadance Evans of Hillsville. Mrs. Goad's surviving siblings are Eugene Cassell of Hillsville, William Russell Goad of Roanoke, and Shelby Barbour, also of Roanoke. She will be greatly missed by many nieces and nephews as well as sisters-in-law and cousins. She loved and was loved by her church, her community and her co-workers. Mrs. Goad was a devoted member of the Pleasant Grove Missionary Baptist Church for 49 years, where she served as clerk and treasurer. For nearly forty years, she worked at Hanes/Sara Lee in Galax where she garnered many life-long friends including Janet Hackler, Jo Ellen Mabe, Alene Richardson and Sarah Snow. Visitation will be at Vaughan-Guynn-McGrady, Hillsville, from 6-8 Friday night. Her funeral will be at Pleasant Grove Baptist Church, on the Snake Creek Road, Saturday morning at 11:00 AM with Rev. Dewey Felts officiating. Burial will follow in the Isaac Banks Cemetery. Vaughan-Guynn-McGrady Chapel is serving the family.
