Aaron Lee "Smokey" Shelton, 74, of Charlottesville, VA passed away on Friday, May 29, 2015 at UVA Hospital in Charlottesville, VA. Born April 26, 1941 in Mt. Airy, NC he was preceded in death by his wife of 37 years, Janet Lee Beamer Shelton and son Rhudy Aaron Shelton, his parents Lucy and Leonard Shelton, and brother Bobby D. Shelton. He retired from State Farm Insurance after 30 years of service. He is survived by his daughter, Stephanie L Shelton of Ruckersville, VA., his son Robert D Shelton of Charlottesville, VA, two Grandchildren, Megan and Ian Howell of Ruckersville, VA, two Great Grandchildren, Jordyn and Savannah, Sisters Joann Leftwich and Carol Smith and husband Joseph of Mt Airy, NC, special Nephew Dustin Carter and wife Mackenzie of Dugspur, VA, and host of other nieces and nephews, Tammy Leftwich and Darlene, Joy Tolbert and husband Reed and son Chris, Walter Leftwich, Bobby D Shelton, Jr, Leonard Paul "LP" Shelton, Marty Shelton of Mt. Airy, NC. Special thank you to friends and neighbors Paul Yates, Pynke and Vernal Lyle, Ed and Carol Harlow, Phil and Edna Ketchum, Amy Deane, and Cassarah Baker. The family would like to thank the doctors, nurses and staff at UVA Medical Hospital, Oncology unit who cared for Aaron. Also, Dr Tiffani Dennis and staff at Charlottesville Internal Medicine. The family will receive friends on Monday, June 1, 2015 at Hill & Wood Funeral Home between 6pm-8pm, located at 201 North First Street, Charlottesville, VA 22902. In addition, the family will receive friends on Wednesday, June 3, 2015 from 1:00 until 2:00 PM with services to follow at 2:00 PM at Vaughan-Guynn-McGrady Chapel in Hillsville, VA. Burial will follow at Good Hope Cemetery in Fancy Gap, VA.
